NWC's new theatre talent

Thursday, Sept. 17 NWC’s theater department will be showcasing a new student theater production, Fresh Faces.
Fresh Faces will include all of the new students involved in theater this school year.  The showcase will  be a combination of show tunes, monologues and short scenes.

The Fresh Faces showcase is a new idea formed by Doc Rainbow, professor of theater arts.  “It’s a way to welcome in new students into theater, and we’re hoping for it to become a tradition,” said Rainbow.

Rainbow passed the idea off to Nathan Cousins, the new employee production manager of the theater department, who will be assisting  the performance.  Cousins graduated from NWC last spring with a B.A in theater.  He will also be directing the spring drama, Tartuffe.

Not only will the students be performing on Maranatha Stage, but the students new to NWC will be paired up with an upper classman to be mentored. “It’s both a process and a production,” Rainbow said.  “The new students will have a mentor to learn the ropes of theater at Northwestern.  It will help prepare, adjust and integrate the new freshman and transfer students.”

The students will have only two weeks to prepare for the showcase.  The upper classmen mentors will be introducing the new faces as well as giving a little bit of their own performance.

It will be a big production for all the theater students since the fall play, The Crucible, has a smaller cast than the usual fall musicals NWC has presented in the past.
