Homecoming week to include old favorites and new additions
-by Laura Gatzke, Assistant News Editor

Classes have started, leaves are turning and fall is coming up.  The beginning of the school year brings many exciting events, one of them being homecoming week on campus.

This means there will be fun events every night and great chapels, all leading to the big homecoming football game.

Students can expect the typical homecoming events and a couple changes.

For one, homecoming week is taking place a little earlier this year.  The week starts on Sept. 21 and stretches to Sept. 26.  Another change this year is the decision to include the variety show on the Thursday of homecoming week.

The week kicks off with the classic grocery bingo taking place at 8 p.m. in the student center.

At this event, students can play many rounds of bingo with the prizes being an assortment of groceries and items that are very practical for college students.  Students can play as many times as they want and get prizes every time they win.

On Tuesday, the annual powder puff game will take place at 6 p.m.  The game will no longer be on Maranatha lawn but on Reynolds field.  Girls in all class levels get to compete in the football games.

Jess Fackler, co-captain for the junior team says, “It is a good opportunity for junior girls to get together and have fun.”

Girls that are interested in playing can sign up for their class team on the SAC board located in Naz.  Fackler encouraged everyone to come to the games even if they are not playing.

“Come out and support NWC,” said Fackler. “Besides, it is a nice break from studying.”

The annual variety show is happening on Thursday night at Maranatha at 7 p.m..  Past shows have included music, comedy and theatre.

The variety show is taking place instead of the pepfest, which typically happens on Thursday of homecoming week.

Friday night brings some special guests to campus for a concert.  Leeland, Brandon Heath and Francesca Battistelli will be performing at 8 p.m. in Maranatha Hall.  Tickets for the concert can be purchased at the Maranatha ticket office for $18 or $22.

All of this leads up to Saturday which hosts the main event of the week: the big football game against the Crown College Storm.

The day starts off with the annual parade, complete with floats made by each of the classes.  Tailgating will take place prior to the game along with activities for kids and families.

The game is free to all current Northwestern students.

The eventful week closes up with a showcase put on by all of the music students in Erickson at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday night.
