Admissions expects record turnout at football frenzy

The Northwestern Admissions Office is expecting well over 100 prospective students to be a part of the roaring crowd at Football Frenzy Saturday, Sept. 19.

Football Frenzy is an annual event to show prospective students the community and school spirit of Northwestern.

Football Frenzy is a free event in which prospective students tour campus, enjoy a free lunch, meet current students, get a chance to win prizes, and cheer the Eagles on to victory.

Check-in for prospective students begins at 10 a.m. The main event starts at 1 p.m. with the Northwestern Eagles taking the field against UW-River Falls.

Assistant Director of Admissions, Emily Herman, encourages everyone to come, and show his or her support. The most important message admissions is trying to get across to the prospective students is the strong school spirit and the encouraging atmosphere that exists at Northwestern College

Herman said: “They are coming to decide if they could see themselves here. We want them to leave with a good feeling in their gut.”

The admissions team is focused on making this a great experience for the prospective students and their families.

Over 100 students have registered, but the admissions department is anticipating at least eighty more as the event comes closer.

“It’s not the kind of event you think to register for. Many students don’t register until right before the event,” Herman explained.

Compared to last year’s event there will be a greater number of prospective students attending.

Herman has made more preparation this year for Football Frenzy than past years. She expects a great turn out, especially if the weather cooperates.

Admissions is expecting Football Frenzy to be full of energy, and school spirit.

The event is known to draw a big crowd every year. One of the  additional incentives to attend, aside from getting a good taste of  Northwestern, is the chance to win free tuition for a year. Both current and prospective students can punt, pass, and kick their way to one year of free tuition at Northwestern. This contest will be held during half time.

Four students will be selected by ticket number. Two will be prospective students, and the other two will be current students. The contestants have to punt, pass, and kick the football across the field, and into the field goal. If the contestant is successful he or she will receive one year of free tuition at Northwestern.

There is also an opportunity to win a $500 certificate to the Northwestern bookstore. It’s a frisbee contest that will also happen during half time. They will select three prospective students, and three current students for this contest.

“Anyone could win; it’s the luck of the draw,” Herman said.

Current Northwestern students are encouraged to come. Not only will they benefit from the promotional prizes, their presence makes in impact on prospectives.

“The event is only successful by having current students attend. So, come out, and show your Eagle pride” said Herman.

The Football Frenzy is only one of the many events Admissions puts together throughout the year. There will be five fall preview days, and three in the spring.

Hoops Hysteria will be held in January. An overnight event will take place in February, along with an event for students interested in PSEO at Northwestern.

There are also several days planned for prospective students to come and check out classes, and specific departments.

The Admissions Office tracks their efforts by surveying students after the events. Each event is geared towards specific groups, so prospective students are encouraged to come to multiple events. This helps them to get a fuller range of experiences at Northwestern.
