Both the men’s and women’s golf teams are in the hunt for a UMAC (Upper Midwest Athletic Conference) championship. In the first day of the men’s conference tournament, the Eagles found themselves in a tie for third place. Bethany Lutheran College held onto a first-place lead by a mere six strokes. Staying true to a successful record, senior captain Nick Olson led the team and the tournament with a low score of 79. Garrett Cook, Alex Kitson and Jordan Prins followed close behind with scores in the 80s. Kitson commented on the tournament: “Conference golf was overall a great experience. It was cold, windy and rainy, but it was a great test of golf over the two days. It was also great to see the team grow closer over the time in Alexandria.” Meanwhile, the women’s team sat themselves in second place with a total score of 419, trailing behind the University of Minnesota-Morris, which shot a 407. Sophomore Kristina Siemens pulled ahead with a score of 90. After day one, Siemens held the lead for the tournament. Sophomore Kayla Prihoda also commented on the challenge of the weather. “Dr. Parish reminded us that the combination of the rain and frigid temperatures would probably make for the worst weather most of us had ever played in but challenged us to focus on hitting each shot to the best of our abilities and not giving up so that we would have no major regrets when the final scores came in.” |
